 What You Need:
- A balloon
- Newspaper and coloured paper
- Paint
- Wallpaper paste
- Streamers
- Sweets
What To Do:
Blow up the balloon if your children
can't manage this and then begin the papier mache
process. Your children can help cut or tear
the newspaper into strips. Next, dip them in
the glue and paste them over the balloon.
Papier mache is best done over a few days to allow
the layers to dry. Hang the balloon from the
clothes line to dry really well.
When the papier mache is thick
enough, burst the balloon and carefully cut a hole
in the top. Decorate it with colourful paints
and bright patterns and hang streamers from the
bottom. Fill with sweets.
At the party, hang up the pinata and
the children take it in turns to hit it with a stick
(blindforlds add an extra challenge) to break it so
the sweets fall out. Lots of fun!
