Painting the House

Young children want to be involved in whatever you are doing. However, letting them help when you are painting with 'real paint' is not usually possible. This activity will let them pretend they are really painting the house.

What You Need:

- A real paint brush
- String, thin rope or cord
- A small, well-washed paint tin with a handle or a small bucket
- Food colouring

What To Do:

Attach the brush to the tin or bucket with the cord so it doesn't get lost in the garden.

Half fill the tin or bucket with water and add some drops of food colouring. If the children want a non-primary colour such as purple, this is a great time to see how colours mix together and change.

Now they can paint the house, the drive, paths, garden edging, the pavers or whatever they like outside and it can all be hosed off later. Best of all, you can do some painting knowing they are happy playing.
