Backyard Mazes

Most young children love to wiggle and squirm through small places and if this applies to your children, try this activity with them in the backyard.

What You Need:

- Garden Furniture
- Cardboard Boxes
- Buckets
- String or Thin Rope

What To Do:

Set up a backyard maze by using some of your outdoor furniture. The children have to crawl underneath the furniture and reach the end of the maze in an allotted amount of time.

Increase the difficulty by placing some obstacles in their way, such as rope tied across two chairs that they have to wriggle under or climb over and not touch. Or you might place a bucket full of water on one of the chairs so they have to wriggle under it and not touch the bucket which could move and spill.

Give older children a handicap by making them complete the maze in a much shorter time or make them carry a plastic cup of water. If they spill some of the water they have to fill up the cup and start again.

See if the children can come up with some new ideas to add to the maze!
